About Antonio Soler

Pater Antonio Soler ist ohne Zweifel eine der bedeutendsten und markantesten Persönlichkeiten der spanischen Musik des 18. Jahrhunderts. Soler erhielt, vom 6. Lenbensjahr an, seine musikalische Ausbildung in der seit alters berühmten Escolania (Singschule) des Klosters Montserrat, wo er den hervorragenden Organisten und Komponisten José Elias zum Lehrer hatte, einen ehemaligen Schüler des großen Valencianers Juan Cabanilles. Also bekam Soler die beste spanische Musiktradition mit auf den Weg. Noch in sehr jugendlichem Alter erhielt er einen Ruf als Kapellmeister an den Dom zu Lérida. Soler trat 1752 in den Hieronymitenorden ein und wurde in ebendemselben Jahr zum Organisten und Chormeister des Klosters El Escorial bei Madrid ernannt, wo er bis an sein Lebensende wirkte.
