About Sophia Whitson

Sophia Whitson began to play the harp at the age of six. Even as a child, she performed frequently in solo, orchestra, and chamber music concerts. From 2003 to 2006, Whitson was a junior student with Ragnhild Kopp at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich. She has won numerous awards and competitions, including a prize at the Jeunesses Musicales International Competition for Ostracized Music in Schwerin in 2010. Whitson studied with Maria Graf at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule für Musik in Berlin, and has attended master classes with Sarah O’Brien, Erika Waardenburg, and Germaine Lorenzini. She has been the solo harpist in the Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin (2009–2010), and performs regularly with orchestras such as the Hamburg Symphony.
