About Marino Formenti

Marino Formenti, pianist and conductor, is one of the most compelling interpreters of his generation. Particularly his performances of new music, his striking interpretations and his experimental concert formats are regularly hailed by the press: "A Glenn Gould of the 21st century", wrote the Los Angeles Times. Formenti has performed at the festivals of Salzburg, Lucerne, Edinburgh, Schleswig-Holstein, Ravinia, Aspen, in Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Tokyo, Los Angeles, New York. Orchestra engagements have included Cleveland Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustav Mahler Chamber Orchestra with conductors such as Franz Welser-Most, Kent Nagano, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Daniel Harding, or Gustavo Dudamel. He has also worked with Gidon Kremer and Maurizio Pollini. Formenti conducted at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Salle Pleyel in Paris, at the Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, Konzerthaus Berlin and Festival Wien Modern. He conducted the Austrian premiere of Kurt Weill's Der Protagonist and a chamber music version of Prokofiev's The Fiery Angel. In 2009 he was awarded the Belmont Prize for contemporary music by the Forberg Schneider Foundation.
