About Alvin Lucier

Alvin Lucier (*1931 in Nashua, New Hampshire; †2021 in Middletown, Connecticut) was one of the most prolific composers of New Music in the twentieth century. Lucier studied music with Aaron Copland at the Tanglewood Center 1958–59; in the 1960s he was active as a choir conductor and taught at Brandeis University MA; from 1970 to 2010 he was a professor at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Some of the most important composers of New Music were among his former students.
