With one's thoughts
Product Details
Description
With one's thoughts sets the composer's own English translation of an untitled poem by Anna Akhmatova, written in 1912. The music came about as a response to the pandemic and resulting lockdown periods in 2020–21, the poem, which focuses on being alone with one's thoughts and mentions going for solitary walks, seeming to fit. The music is very much a reflection of the words, rhythmically simple, but achieving expression through the subtle use of harmony and gentle dissonance. Written for unaccompanied four-part SATB choir, with occasional straightforward divisi, this short piece offers a moment of reflection to concert programmes.
