Twilight Zone the Movie

By late 1982, Jerry Goldsmith had completed Poltergeist, First Blood, and Night Crossing. Twilight Zone: the Movie would prove to be no less extrodinary of an achievement. The episodic nature of the film presented the composer with the opportunity to invent a variety of different musical identities, each a distinct palate and personality. The John Landis "Time Out" segment, in particular, is a remarkable work for four pianos and percussion reminiscent of Bartok's Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion. as well as Goldsmith's music for John Frankenheimer's Seven Days in May (1964). Other influences range from the colorful impressionism of Ravel in Spielberg's "Kick the Can" to hints of Stravinsky's Le Sacre du printemps in George Miller's "Nightmare at 30,000 Feet."
