Puccini’s final opera Turandot was adapted from Carlo Gozzi’s 18th-century play of the same name, and premiered following the composer’s death. The story concerns the Princess Turandot and Prince Calaf, with challenges set by the two that inevitably lead to a blossoming love. Set in China, the opera was notably staged in The Forbidden City, Peking in 1998.
