Description

Theobald Böhm was principal flautist at the royal Isartor theatre from 1816, appointed as a member of the court orchestra in his native city Munich two years later and promoted to principal flautist there from 1830. Concert tours to several European cities established his reputation as one of the leading flute virtuosos of his time. In 1828 Böhm opened a flute manufacturing workshop and revolutionised the construction of the flute with two features: the conical ring-key flute of 1832 introduced the key system still in use today, while the acoustic refinements of the cylindrical bore flute of 1847 have hardly been improved on since then. As a composer Böhm wrote works that show off the best qualities of both flute and flautist.
Plate no. 15040 / published in 1857.
