The ‘lady’ is Gwenllian, daughter of Rhys ab Gruffydd, Prince of South Wales, and the first wife of Ednyfed Vychan, chief counsellor of Llewellyn ab Iorweth, Prince of North Wales. She was eminent among the members of her handsome and clever family for her beauty and intelligence. She died in 1236.
