Description
Siegfried Palm (1927–2005) is one of those instrumentalists who have devoted themselves and their consummate mastery of their instrument to the service of modern music, and who have made a permanent contribution to its development. A master pupil of Enrico Mainardi, he became the leading cellist of the Municipal Orchestra in Lübeck at the age of 18, and two years later obtained the position of leading cellist in the Symphony Orchestra of the Northwest German Radio. He was a member of the Hamann Quartet from 1951 until 1962, and afterwards ran the master class for violoncello at the Music Academy in Cologne. Numerous concert tours throughout Europe, Africa and Asia brought him fame as soloist, and he played with the most important orchestras.

On this CD Siegfried Palm performs works by György Ligeti (”Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra“), Krzysztof Penderecki (”Sonata for Violoncello and Orchestra “), Anton Webern (”Three small pieces for Violoncello and Piano“, Op. 11), Paul Hindemith (”Sonata for Violoncello“, Op. 25 No. 3), and Bernd Alois Zimmermann (”Sonata for Cello solo“).
