About Siegfried Mauser

Siegfried Mauser was born in Straubing, Germany, and studied music pedagogy and piano at the Hochschule for Music and Theater in Munich, as well as musicology, philosophy, and art history at the universities in Munich and Salzburg. From 2003 to 2014, he was Rector and President of the Munich Hochschule, and Director of the music department at the Bavarian Academy for the Fine Arts. From 2014 to 2016, he was Rector of the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.

In addition to his academic career, Mauser has enjoyed a successful career as a pianist, specializing in music of the 20th and 21st centuries. His recordings of works for piano by Paul Hindemith, Karl Amadeus Hartmann, Wilhelm Killmayer, Wolfgang Rihm, and other distinguished composers are highly regarded. With his 2014 recording of sonatas and other selected works by Mozart, he established a new interpretive standard.

Siegfried Mauser has performed with leading orchestras and conductors, and has appeared in major festivals such as the Salzburg Festival and the Ruhr Piano Festival. He has also received a number of awards, including the Order of Merit from the German Federal Republic, the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, and the Bavarian Order of Maximilian.
