Country of origin: Italy
Birthday: January 8, 1905
Date of death: August 9, 1988

About Giacinto Scelsi

Giacinto Scelsi (1905-1988), who said of himself that he was not a composer, developed his idea of 'spherical sound' which he realized with microtonal elements in a kind of intuitive improvisation. At the same time, much space is also taken up by his study of Eastern philosophies.
In the 1980s, Scelsi became fairly well-known, especially in France and Germany. At the Darmstadt Summer Courses in 1982, L’Itinéraire, a group of composers from Paris who were in opposition to Pierre Boulez and the Centre Georges-Pompidou, declared Giacinto Scelsi the progenitor of a new avant-garde.
