About Axel Porath
Axel Porath was born in Hagen in 1972 and studied viola with Hermann Voss and Gunter Teuffel at the Stuttgart Musikhochschule. He also studied string quartet performance with the Melos Quartet in Stuttgart and with Jörg-Wolfgang Jahn in Karlsruhe. Since 2002, he has been a member of the Ensemble Musikfabrik and has concertized internationally as a soloist and chamber musician at all the most important festivals for contemporary music. Porath has worked closely with the composers Mauricio Kagel, Helmut Lachenmann, György Kurtág, Wolfgang Rihm, Peter Eötvös, Rebecca Saunders, and Liza Lim. Works have been dedicated to him by Toshio Hosokawa, Enno Poppe, and Martin Smolka. He has participated in Music Theater pieces by Sasha Waltz and La Fura dels Baus. Porath also appears in duo concerts with various jazz musicians and the accordionist Margit Kern.
