About Iris Vermillion

Iris Vermillion, mezzo-soprano, is much sought after as a guest artist by major concert and opera houses throughout the world. Among the high points in her career have been the role of Idamante in Mozart’s Idomeneo at the Semper Opera in Dresden and the Salzburg Festival; Brangane (in Tristan und Isolde) under Kurt Masur in Paris, Dresden, and Seville; Venus (in Tannhäuser) in Dresden and Cologne; a new production of Shulhoff’s Die Flammen in Vienna; and the role of Herodia (in Salome) in Munich, Milan, and Vienna.

A versatile and talented concert and recital artist, Iris Vermillion has worked with such conductors as Abbado, Bychkov, Thielemann, Barenboim, Chailly, Dohnányi, Eschenbach, Harnoncourt, Jacobs, and Nagano. For her interpretation of the title role in Schoek’s Penthesiliea at the Semper Opera, Vermillion was awarded the German Theater Prize, “Der Faust”.
