About Claron McFadden
Claron McFadden studied voice at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Her celebrated opera roles as a soprano are many and varied, including the title role in Berg’s “Lulu”, the Controller in Jonathan Dove’s “Flight”, and Zerbinetta in Strauss’s “Ariadne auf Naxos”. Numerous projects have taken her throughout Europe, including “Dido and Aeneas”(Purcell) and “Les Indes galantes”(Rameau), which she also performed at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. She has worked with conductors such as Kurt Masur, Sir Andrew Davis, Hartmut Haenchen, René Jacobs, William Christie, Frans Brüggen, Marc Minkowsky, Trevor Pinnock, Neeme Järvi, and Fabio Biondi. McFadden’s repertory includes many major oratorios, but she is also in demand for contemporary music, in particular the music of Wolfgang Rihm and Harrison Birtwistle. She performed in the world premiere of Birtwistle's “The Woman and the Hare”at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, and she has collaborated several times with Jörg Widmann and the Bavarian State Opera, in particular for Widmann’s “Babylon”. Her many recordings include “The Woman and the Hare”(nominated for a Grammy award), Birtwistle’s “Paul Celan Songs”, Haydn’s “Orfeo”, and Gluck’s “Paride ed Elena”with La Stagione in Frankfurt. She has also appeared as Aspasia in The King’s Consort recording of Handel’s “Alexander Balus”. She has also made a number of television appearances. In 2007, Claron McFadden was awarded the Amsterdam Arts Prize. She made her debut as a performance artist with her monodrama “Lilith”, which was premiered at the 2012 Holland Festival.
